A new look, and other updates

Prompted by Google’s mobilegeddon, I’ve updated Mewsings’ look, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. Hope you like it. It should be more readable on tablets and mobiles, now. I’ve also been updating other parts of the site in a similar way, so now my Spacewreck music project’s mini-site is mobile-friendly, as is the Alice at R’lyeh mini-site. I’ll be working on a major overhaul of the rest of the site at my usual slow pace… I have to say, making a site mobile-friendly isn’t very difficult if you’ve got a CSS-based site to start with. I found the Responsive Web Design Fundamentals course at Udacity all I needed; it’s quite short, and free.

Meanwhile, I’m still working at bringing out a novel or two this year. (Not writing them — that’s already done. It’s all the details of publishing that’s taking the time.) First to come will be The Fantasy Reader. Here’s the cover:

Looks fine on my mini-iPad. I’ve never owned a cellphone. I find the mini-pad as small as I can take. I don’t know how people can read things on cellphones, let alone watch movies. Too hard on my eyes. Oh, I did notice the RSS feed link wasn’t working for me, but maybe not ready yet? Also, thanks for the mobile friendly link. Good job! 🙂

Thanks for that, Linda. I don’t use a phone for the internet, but there’s probably a generation that use nothing but a phone! I wonder why the RSS link isn’t working? It should be…

  3. Linda says:

On the phones, that’s for sure. I am not convinced for the better. Might be why some people just seem to respond to pictures, because they just don’t seem to read much anymore (screens to small to bother, maybe?). As for the RSS, tried again, on my laptop. It says, no RSS can be displayed on safari. So, maybe something to do with the browsers. Not sure…

I think I’ve got the RSS thing now. It had to be in the page’s header, too. Hopefully that’s fixed it!

For various reasons, I’ve been doing most of my surfing on my phone these days. So I can say the mobile friendly version is looking good! (I do remember finding the text on the previous version a bit hard to read occasionally).

Sorry for the slow response on the link. (Suddenly was buried with deadlines.) But, since the RSS feed is working on my main computer, I am thinking the reason the link on my laptop doesn’t work, maybe an software (app) problem with the browser I am using. (Things are changing so much, getting a little dizzying.) Always enjoy your post. Have a good weekend! L

Thanks, Linda. I do appreciate you checking. I made a change, though, so perhaps the laptop browser might work now. Thanks again!
