A couple of bits of news. First off, my story “The Realm of Lost Things” has just been published in Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine issue 53! I haven’t seen the magazine yet, though I’m sure it’s winging (or perhaps floating) its way to me from Australia right now. I’m thrilled for this story to be published, and in such a long-running zine, too. It can be ordered in print, as a PDF, as a Kindle-compatible MOBI, or an EPUB, all from this page. I’m doubly thrilled because this is the first story I’ve been paid for!
Also, a cartoon I did of SF writer Gene Wolfe, in a mewsings post a year and a half ago (“The Secret of Reading Gene Wolfe“) is being used as part of an upcoming event, “An Evening to Honour Gene Wolfe”, in which the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame will be awarding Gene the first ever Fuller Award, by which the city honours its greatest living writers. As a result, I appear on the award’s behind-the-scenes page. It sounds like a great event, with a lot of notable special guests attending. If you’re in the area, you might want to buy a ticket. All details here.
That’s great news on both!
Thanks Linda!
Brilliant stuff 🙂
Murray, I was really glad to see it was available on PDF format, but when I tried to buy the PDF copy, the cart link on their site, didn’t do anything. I don’t know if they aren’t selling to certain countries or maybe, they are not selling out of country. (Or maybe, just not available yet.) I’ll keep trying.
I bought a Kindle copy from their site, and must say I was a bit puzzled about how to continue once I’d clicked “Add to Cart”. Nothing seemed to happen. Perhaps this is what you’re getting? But it turned out I had to then choose the “Checkout” option from the “Buy Now” menu — and even there, it’s hard to find, as it’s halfway down all the other options…
Or, just looking at it now, if you click “Add to Cart”, then scroll right down to the bottom of the page, there’s a text-only link “Go to Checkout”. It’s right at the bottom, in the grey page-background!
Not the easiest buying procedure!
That is exactly what happen to me, when I clicked onto ‘Add to Cart’ – nothing. I would have never figured out what you just mentioned. I’ll give it a try pretty soon. I don’t have a Kindle, so will get the PDF, if I can.
Thanks very much for the instructions. I’ll have to keep this open, when I do order.
Murray, I’ve just read ‘The Realm of Lost Things’ and loved it: one of those melancholy, touching fantasies that stay with you. In a way, it reminded me of the Australian animation,’The Lost Thing’ by Shaun Tan, a wistful short that actually won Best Short Animation 2010 … except your ending was satisfying!
Great work.
Thanks, Brenda! I’ve read Shaun Tan’s Tales from Outer Suburbia and keep meaning to get more by him.
It’s such a pleasure to read a text piece that is so visual. I just sat down and started reading and couldn’t put it down. I don’t want to give anything away, so other people will go and buy the publication.
But you pick up on a very common thing, everyone has experienced in some fashion, and pulled us onto a world that is unimaginable, but made it very real. The last lines is quite powerful, with so many people living in a virtual world these days.
Hope your story gets a large audience. Excellent read!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Linda!
